Small Candy Cane Ornament

I. Love. Candy Canes.  I don't know what it is about candy canes, but I have always loved them.  My daughter loves candy canes as much if not more than I do.  Every year, I have to buy a couple extra boxes of candy canes to last the entire year.  Those little starlight candies or peppermint sticks just won't do.  It has to be candy canes.  :)
Maybe that is why I was super excited to write up this pattern.  This is really quick and easy to work up and is very easy to assemble.  The finished candy cane measures approx. 4 inches long.  I think I will be attaching a candy cane ornament to the top of some of my Christmas gifts this year.  It is a really cute "little something extra".

 Small Candy Cane

What you will need:
G hook
Red and white yarn.
Scissors
Yarn needle
Pipe cleaner
Hot glue gun

With white yarn:
Ch 25, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across.  Fasten off and weave in ends.
With red yarn:
Ch 25, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Twist the red and white curls around each other to make one curl.

Take the pipe cleaner and fold it in half.  If it is still longer than your curl just fold one of the ends over a bit.
Take the curl and curl it around your pipe cleaner.
Make a bend at the top to form your candy cane.

Optional, but recommended:
Put a small dab of hot glue on both ends of the candy cane so it won’t unravel.  I find that hot glue is the easiest and most effective way to keep everything held together.

To finish for an ornament:
Attach a loop of yarn to the top of the candy cane.

  1. Hi: I wanted to thank you for the cute snowflakes. I am always looking for new ones. I too hate to block them so since you have shared the patterns I will share an idea. Not really mine but I especially look for snowflakes that I can make with yarn to the size of a CD. I make two snowflakes, using two old CDs or some of the free ones you can get a the discount stores
I put the CDs back to back and join my snowflakes at the points. Slipping the CD inside as I go.
They look really pretty hanging on my porch or in a window near a register. They sparkle as they spin. Hope you enjoy the idea. Jeanne

  3. I've made these with those dreaded wire hangers. You do have to cut and bend them but my prime hobby is beading so cutting and bending wire is almost second nature. Also with a hanger you can make a giant candy cane for your door.
